2023 Hawaiian International Billfish Competition

Hey, name is Hannah Dunlea and I am 19-year-old fishing enthusiast from Cairns.

With my previous victory at the Australian International Billfishing Competition, my dad and I have been awarded an invite to the Hawaiian International Billfishing Competition in Kona, Hawaii. Fishing has been a lifelong passion of mine, and I have competed in many local billfishing tournaments, including the 2018 Innisfail Light Tackle Competition, the 2019 Yorkeys Knob Heavy Tackle Competition, and dozens more, all with very promising results.

I currently work 6 days a week as a deckhand and glass bottom boat driver for Reef Unlimited during the week and as a sailing instructor at the Cairns Yacht Club on weekends. I have also previously worked on the fishing charter boat Norkat II, doing all kinds of fishing charters, so I am no stranger to the unpredictability and wonders of the ocean.

To provide some context, the Hawaiian International Billfishing Competition is widely recognised as one of the most competitive and challenging fishing events in the world. This year, I have the immense honour of participating in the tournament, showcasing my fishing skills, and representing not only my state but also my country.

However, as with any ambitious endeavour, there are substantial costs involved in participating in such events. These expenses include travel, accommodation, fishing gear, hiring a charter boat, and tournament registration fees.
