2020 Senior Cat Rescue Marathon
Donation protected
On Halloween — in conjunction with this year's Virtual TCS New York City Marathon — I ran the Seventh Annual New York Cat Hospital SENIOR CAT RESCUE MARATHON! And as sole participant, I won! Again! I'm now seven for seven.
The pandemic has changed the face of animal rescue, and while in some areas shelter populations are down, there remains great need to help some of the less fortunate cats. Far too many are still ABANDONED or SURRENDERED at area shelters. Some are old, some are ill, and of course some families no longer have the means to care for/keep their cats. So sadly countless sweet senior and special-needs cats are torn from the only homes they've known and placed in cages to await probable euthanasia.
But with your help these cats can have a SECOND CHANCE. The dedicated rescue advocates below pull cats from area kill lists, provide vital medical care, and place them in warm and welcoming foster and forever homes. Among them they've saved literally hundreds of loving, wonderful cats from a sad and unnecessary end.
Pictured above is sweet Cabot, one such rescue who happily found his way to a loving, forever home (mine!).
Following previous "Midnight," "Manhattan," "Tri-State," and "Manhattan Bridges" marathons, 2020 saw me traverse all FIVE BOROUGHS of NYC. Starting in Staten Island, I jumped over the Verrazzano, then worked my way through Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and The Bronx. Total distance was 30 miles.
All funds raised will be collected by me and distributed to Frankie's Feline Fund (www.frankiesfelinefund.org), Ready for Rescue (www.readyforrescue.org), and Paws Crossed Animal Rescue (www.pawscrossedny.org) — all registered not-for-profit rescue organizations.
If in these difficult times you're able, please DIG DEEP to help these special cats, and SHARE SHARE SHARE on social media. THANK YOU!
