Describe your work as an installer ---
As an installer, my work consists of making requested changes whether adding or moving infrastructure during remodels. Connecting end user devices and network devices to the campus network. Installing, terminating, and certifying copper and fiber optic cabling. I’ve been working on correcting and updating documentation, cable management, and identifying network devices that need to be upgraded.

Describe why you became BICSI certified. – I became BICSI certified to be better at my job. I enjoy my job and want to do what I can to be at my best with my skills. I do plan on continuing my education within the BICSI certification programs. I believe that skills can always be improved with practice and education.
Summarize one story about your career. It’s always difficult to choose just one story, but I believe the most interesting one this year is the one where I got to build a terminal room from the ground up with a coworker. It was the first new building of the year last year for the agriculture program at a new location. It was only a single rack room, but putting what I’ve learned from reading the ITSM manual so far to practice was a lot of fun. We installed the ladder racks, for cable support to the racks where they would be terminated. We installed new rack types that we haven’t used yet on campus and found them to work rather well for what we needed. We took turns drilling the holes in the floor to secure the rack, terminated the cables that were installed by a third party and certified them. We have also started using air blown fiber and I spliced and installed the fiber into the rack. This is also where we got to put our grounding knowledge to work to ground the rack, ladder racks, and network devices installed. It took about a week for us to complete this project. I feel like we had a few learning curves, but we were able to work together and figure it out to create a room we were proud of.

Other information about your career or interests. – My career isn’t strictly ICT based, it’s about half of what I do. I also help manage our network on layers 2 and 3 as well. I’m working not only on my ICT industry skills, but also my Cisco management skills. Working with layers 1 through 3 on the OSI reference model comes with a lot of logical troubleshooting that sometimes includes verifying damage hasn’t been done to the physical infrastructure. This year my company school has been expanding and building new buildings, which means I get to experience new builds instead of retro fittings. My interests are spending time with my family, playing a variety of table top games to distress from the week, working on helping educate/bring awareness to young females entering into the IT field about the ICT industry and women in technology programs that are available to them, and encouraging SkillsUSA participation to our students.

Best of luck in the 2020 challenge.
