2021 Cedar Grove Waves Flag Installation

#WeStillRemember

It’s been 20 years since the horrible events of September 11, 2001, when nearly 3,000 people were killed in the terrorist attacks in New York, at the Pentagon and in a field in Pennsylvania. Their loss was devastating for those left behind, especially in the communities in and near New York City, where so many people who worked in the Twin Towers lived.

This includes Cedar Grove, New Jersey, where, for the past several years, Cedar Grove High School has been applying a flag installation on its grounds in remembrance of the 2,977 victims of the attacks. For the 20th anniversary, the students will once again be placing the flag installation on the grounds of Cedar Grove High School.

Each flag represents not only an individual, but also his or her home country—as people of so many other nations were also among the dead on that awful day.

The flag installation will run from September 11 until September 23, 2021, on the school’s front lawn. For the 20th anniversary, permanent recessed lighting will be added to the paver stones around the steel monument to the victims. This will always be lit in remembrance, even after the flags themselves are removed on September 23.

In addition, the front of the school will light up the sky with two blue beams in memory of the Twin Towers. The $7,000 lighting was generously donated by Illuminations Inc with the help of Jarmel Kizel Architects and Engineers, Inc. of Livingston.

Cedar Grove Waves is raising money to pay for the lighting surrounding the steel monument and the manpower it will cost to do all the electrical work required.
