2021 Everesting for Black Lives Matter

Purpose
Racism and racial inequality are a pervasive, pernicious, and deeply ingrained part of the US. It is structural, it is institutionalized, and it is obdurate. That's not going to change overnight, unfortunately—but institutions like the NAACP do the honorable work of holding our country to the standards it supposedly stands for—equality, freedom, justice—for all people regardless of any attribute an individual manifests let alone the distinction of how much melanin you happen to be born with.
The cycling bit is just an excuse to ask you all to donate. Please consider doing so.
Everesting
For those interested in the cycling bit, Everesting is repeating the same climb on a bike over and over in a single ride until you've accumulated the equivalent elevation of Mt. Everest: 29,032ft. Everesting has become fairly popular during Covid and has served as a common fundraising mechanism for crazy cyclists.
I completed my first Everesting last year, repeating climbs of Bear Mountain 27 times. The attempt took 14hrs 32mins of riding time (16hrs 20mins total time), covering 208.7miles, accumulating 29,744ft, and burning 10,082 calories. You can check out my 2020 Everesting ride here.
This year, I'll be doing my Everlasting attempt in the virtual world of Zwift (known as vEveresting—virtual Everesting). Zwift is basically a massive multiplayer game that hooks up to an indoor trainer which can simulate virtual roads that are based on real-world locations. This should enable me to do a better job of live-streaming my effort and even have friends join along to do part of the ride with me.
Ride Details
Date: 10/2/21 starting at 8am EST.
Instagram Live: follow me on Instagram to see live updates on my ride.
Zwift: Find me on Zwift as Jason Black to join and send me a message if you'd like to join for a summit or two.
While I will be making my vEveresting attempt on 10/2/21, don't let that stop you from donating after that date!
