Find the good.
That's the mentality that brought The Mary Mahoney Memorial Scholarship to life. The scholarship emerged from heartache, loss and a need to make sense of death. Mary Mahoney, my mom, died from cancer on Aug. 20, 2017. She never had a formal arts education, but she made up for it in natural talent and persistence. Her scholarship is a space to honor the next generation of artists while carrying forward her legacy of nurturing those around her. Since 2018, The Charlotte Post Foundation has awarded three scholarships to artists pursuing higher education: Bryana Mainor, Marcus Fitzpatrick and Malik J. Norman . It provides $1,330 to the recipient to help fund education costs. Why $1,330? It's the equivalent of her birthday $718, July 18, plus my birthday, $612, June 12. The scholarship is entirely community funded, and we need your help to continue supporting artists.
More information about The Charlotte Post Foundation: Our Mission is to bring the proper expertise and resources together to help define issues and seek solutions that will positively impact the educational opportunities of African American youth in their primary school years, to recognize and celebrate academic success among Black students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools through a competitive scholarship opportunities called the Top Senior program and to provide community education initiatives.
