Skyview Robotics: Skyview Booster Club Fundraiser
Donation protected
WHO WE ARE: Who are the StormBots?
The Skyview StormBots (in association with the Skyview Booster Club) are high school students organized into various departments or subteams, just like a business. Each subteam plays a crucial role as we collaborate to design, build, program and field a robot design to the specifications of an annual competition challenge presented by FIRST Inspires*. Students put over 3,500 hours into building and programming a robot that performs in both autonomous and human control modes. In addition to the actual robot, many of our students are involved in promoting the mission and vision of FIRST through the team’s marketing efforts and community service projects.
WHAT WE DO: We build more than robots, we build futures!
Since our first season in 2008, we have been very fortunate to have adult volunteers from local businesses and industry mentor us. Our 30 Mentors generously share their evenings and weekends to train us in real workplace skills including engineering design, CAD, machining and fabrication technologies, electronics and coding, marketing, teamwork and public speaking. As a result, 100% of our students can “turn pro” when they enter the workforce. We are proud of the fact that young women comprise of 50 - 55% of the team in any given year.
WHAT WE NEED: What does your donation do?
Each year we build a new robot specifically designed for the year's competition. In addition to the many parts, components and other robot consumables needed for this, we must also fund our entry fees, travel and lodging, marketing collateral and team apparel. Each year we enter three regional events around Washington and Oregon and twice have won a berth to the World Championships in Houston, Texas. Our annual running costs exceed $40,000 annually. Base expenses are covered by grant funding from the Vancouver School District, student fees and sponsorships and donations in kind from local businesses. The balance comes from fundraising activities such as this GoFundMe campaign and various sales.
In association with the Skyview Booster Club, we are asking for YOUR support through this Campaign in which we hope to raise $20,000. Won’t you please consider donating today?
