2024 Dafana Institute Quebo, Guinea-Bissau Project

Donation protected
In coordination with NGO-QUITACARE in Guinea-Bissau (Africa), I have created this fundraiser to help the construction project of Dafana Institute in Quebo, Tombali Region.

NGO-QUITACARE promotes change in Guinea-Bissau by working with grassroot initiatives for remote communities in education, agriculture, health, environment protection and rural tourism. The founder of NGO-QUITACARE, Daniel Nabicamba, is a former Military Officer in Guinea-Bissau who received English language training with the US Military at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio TX. He is certified by the US Department of Defense (DoD) in both "Managing English Language Training Course" and "Advanced English Language Instructor Course" and would like to use his skills to help educate the children in Quebo.

NGO-QUITACARE's first project was opening the Dafana Institute in Bissau City. Dafana Institute in the capital city of Bissau was successfully opened and has been operating since 2007. NGO-QUITACARE continues to work with the Balanta B'urassa History and Genealogy Society in America (BBHAGSIA) to fund various projects for Dafana Institute in Bissau; specifically teaching english to locals to guide DNA-tested descendants of the various ethnic groups in Guinea-Bissau living in America as a result of the transatlantic slave trade. This is how I came to meet Daniel and work with NGO-QUITACARE.

NGO-QUITACARE's second project is to bring Dafana Institute to the town of Quebo, a rural community in the Tombali Region ~127 miles from Bissau. The Dafana Institute in Quebo will serve as the primary means of education for children in this community and will be a 12 classroom building that can hold up to 920 students (from 1st - 12th grade) and service ~6000 families (Rendering below). Dafana Institute in Quebo will promote improved English, Sciences, Agriculture, and IT learning opportunities for local children. The reason for the decision to build the school lies in the need to cope with the population growth rate in Quebo and provide education in an area with scarce educational infrastructure.

One Story School Building Blueprint:

NGO-QUITACARE started this initiative in 2022 and was able to raise $8039.00 (USD) to start construction on this project; however, there is still a need of $25,427.00 (USD) for completion. Updates will be provided throughout construction.
I have attached pictures of the school in its current state with concrete bricks and walls to window level to provide an idea of how much additional work needs to be done. NGO-QUITACARE has a multidisciplinary team of staff with appropriate technical skills, and experience in working in rural/remote communities such as Quebo. This team has employees and senior managers who have consolidated professional skills in the field of education and agriculture in the most remote areas of Guinea-Bissau and want to provide quality education to students in Quebo.

Unlike the United States, most schools in rural towns in Guinea-Bissau are not funded by the government, rather grassroot initiatives like this one started by Daniel. Guinea-Bissau is among the worlds least developed nations and one of the 10 poorest countries in the world. Guinea-Bissau is among the most politically and socially unstable countries in the world. In recent years, the country has suffered numerous coups d'etat, disrupting the functioning of the state. To support the Quebo School Development Project, NGO-QUITACARE has asked me to help fundraise in the US to support the Dafana Institute. The expected outcomes of the Dafana Institute in Quebo include providing quality education in a safe/healthy environment with a strong curriculum taught by qualified staff.

All donations collected will go directly to NGO-QUITACARE's Founder/Project Manager Daniel Nabicamba to help build Dafana Institute in Quebo to support education for local youth in the Tombali Region of Guinea-Bissau. This project can re-start with ANY donation; even if we don't reach our goal! Updates will be provided throughout construction.

NOTE: While there is continued partnership and fundraising with BBHAGSIA for Dafana Institute in Bissau, this fundraiser is for the construction of Dafana Institute in Quebo ONLY.
