What is the Killarney Annual Fundraiser?

The Killarney Annual Fundraiser is a once per school year direct financial contribution campaign in which families donate directly to a Go Fund Me link, rather than sell items to raise funds. This approach allows families to receive a tax receipt for their full donation and all funds raised go directly to the school. The Killarney Parent Fundraising Society, the charitable organization arm of the overall Killarney School Council, invests in materials and experiences that enrich the learning environment for our children at Killarney School. It funds various programs, events, and special projects, our focus this year to kickstart funding for the Killarney School playground replacement.

Why are we replacing the playground?

The playground at Killarney School is coming up on end of life as set out by Calgary Board of Education (CBE) standards, so it will need to be replaced in the next couple of years. And while we still have a couple of years to replace it, a new playground will cost upwards of $500,000 with no financial support from the CBE. The recently established Killarney School Playground Committee as part of the overall Killarney School Council has started to look at grants and other sources of funding to make this possible and this year's Killarney Annual Fundraiser will be an integral part of kickstarting this journey.

What is the fundraising goal and how much do parents generally donate?

The fundraising goal for this year is $30,000 with a recommended donation amount of $125 per student; however this is only a suggested amount and all contributions are greatly appreciated. We also encourage you to forward the link along to other family members or friends who may also be interested in contributing.

How much of my donation actually goes to the school?

All donations received from Go Fund Me go to the Killarney Parent Fundraising Society as the charitable organization arm of the Killarney School Council. From there, the funds are invested in accordance with our fundraising objectives for the year.

The Killarney Annual Fundraiser was in the spring last year, how come it has moved to the fall and will there be another one in the spring?

The main driver to move the Killarney Annual Fundraiser up to the fall this year is to gain momentum for Playground Project funding. This will be the only fundraiser run by the Killarney School Council this school year and will cover the 2024/2025 school year.
