2025 LMU Veterinary Mission Trip - Andrea, Julissa, and Macy

Hello! My name is Andrea Doty, and along with Julissa Sandoval and Macy White, we are organizing a veterinary mission trip to the Maderas Rainforest Conservancy (https://maderasrfc.org/)! This trip is an opportunity for us to provide mentorship, education, and firsthand clinical experience to a hand-selected group of future veterinarians. The community surrounding the conservancy will provide their pets, and with help from our local Dr. Mauricio Rodriguez, we will be operating a high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter clinic. This will include offering minor veterinary treatments for the impoverished owners, like medications for ear infections, mange, and flea/tick preventative. While the materials involved in surgery will be provided by Dr. Rodriguez, we need your help in sourcing some of these other optional materials!

Luckily, LMU has exposed the three of us to the lengths that the financially limited need to go to to afford veterinary care—bargain bin stores, expired veterinary inventories, and discounted overstock. This is where the majority of our funding will be spent! We have composed a list of desired items to bring to Costa Rica with us, but obviously, with more items to bring, more cost will be accrued for getting it there.

A final hope for our crowdfunding is to provide more necessities to our students. The Maderas Rainforest Conservancy has graciously provided lodging, meal services, and transportation all included in our students' tuition fee. However, a couple of areas we hope to be able to fund for our students include their taxis to and from the airport, a mission T-shirt, nametags, and potential supplies that can be used to work on their surgical dexterity (sutures, gloves, etc.).

We are not asking for much, and any help that you may be able to provide is greatly appreciated. We cannot wait to make a difference in the Primavera community and to expose the future of vet med to the many exciting ways that medicine can be practiced!
