Help Miller Family With Jenn's Medical Costs
Jenn got a kidney!
As many of you know, Jennifer Barton Miller received her kidney on April 26. She is grateful for the ongoing support of everyone that has followed her journey and offered encouragement. After years of attending dialysis three days a week with countless health scares, Jenn is thrilled to be able to hope for the future and even do simple things that we take for granted, such as eating a variety of food and using the bathroom properly.
That being said, the long term success of a kidney transplant depends on many things, continued medical care being essential. When the body receives a new organ, it identifies said organ as "foreign," since the recipient was not born with it. As a result, the body attempts to attack the organ. Luckily, anti-rejection medication prevents this from happening as it works with other medication in order to keep the body stable.
Jenn takes a variety of medication daily, including:
Tacrolimus/ Myfortic: an immunosuppressant that weakens the immune system to prevent the body's attack on the organ
Nifedipine/ Labetalol/ Clonidine/ Hydralazine: blood pressure medication to keep extreme high's or low's from damaging the organ
Prednisone: Steroid that helps prevent inflammation and assists organ function
Acyclovir: antiviral medication that prevents the infection that can be caused by anti-rejection medication weakening immune system Heartburn medication
This crucial cocktail costs about $700.00 a month.
While Jenn has Medicare Part A to cover hospital stays and Cigna to cover doctor's appointments, insurance unfortunately does not cover all medication. She is also required to go to doctor appointments 2 - 4 times a month in Tampa. Being out of work, the Barton-Miller family has been relying on one income and a dwindling savings account to cover rent, bills, medication, and medical appointment co-pays.
Because of this, I am asking if you would consider contributing whatever you are able in order to help lighten this family's financial load during Jenn's recovery. Your support up to this point has been overwhelming and coveted, and I am confident that it will continue through various mediums, including prayer, encouragement, and even financial support.
Jenn has fought every day to remain present and hopeful. Please continue to fight with us.
