Please read the most recent update. When I redeployed from Afghanistan in 2016, I had a shoulder and a bicep that would need five surgical repairs to be fixed. As I waited patiently for my surgery to be approved and scheduled I began to experience the symptom of Transition Disorder and PTSD. During leave, I had the opportunity to work with my sister as she cared for her honey bees at Redoubt Farm. The excitement of tending to her bees was contagious. I had a new purpose, something to look forward to, keeping bees. I have my own bees now and have founded a non-profit, Doc's Healing Hives and Honey Inc. The sole purpose of this non-profit is to help veterans, the therapeutic power of beekeeping. Each veteran admitted into the program will receive, beekeeping equipment and training, a colony of honey bees, a beehive, and mentorship. We are asking for help establishing the apiary where we will be raising the honey bees. The immediate goal is to have a safe bee yard to raise ten colonies of honeybees. These honey bees will be donated from bee removal companies or captured swarms. The cost of ten Langstroth beehives is $2500.00. To add a fence and landscape around the bee yard is an additional $1500. This will help prevent unwanted intruders and create an immediate food source for the honey bees. All support is appreciated and tax-deductible. Please help us help other veterans heal. You can find us on FB at Doc's Healing Hives and Honey or on the web at www.docshealinghives.org .
