Rathmines VIRTUAL Open Gardens 2020
Donation protected
A highlight of the Rathmines Initiative’s calendar is the Rathmines Open Gardens event.
Thanks to the generosity of gardeners there is an opportunity on alternative years to visit gardens large and small and to view familiar and unfamiliar plants, whilst benefiting a local charity. The gardens include Trinity College Botanical Gardens, a unique educational and research resource, allotments at the rear of St Philips, Temple Road and several private gardens, each with its own story. Feedback over the years has confirmed that the Rathmines Open Gardens event has delighted novice and experienced gardeners alike. And that's apart from the tea, coffee, home-made cakes and lemonade available to savour in some of the gardens!
This difficult Covid-19 time has spurred the Rathmines Initiative to innovate. It has decided to create the Rathmines VIRTUAL Open Gardens 2020. This summer, discover the varied gardens of Rathmines from your own home. Thanks to the generosity of garden owners and the expertise of Paul Quinn video maker, you can enjoy a virtual tour of eight gardens, each one a distinctive space with the added bonus of hearing the gardener describe their garden.
A teaser video has been included above, with a link to the full Rathmines VIRTUAL Open Gardens 2020 sent once we reach our fundraising target. The proceeds will be shared equally between the Rathmines conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul and the Rathmines Initiative. The requested donation is €10. Please spread the word!
The Rathmines Initiative is a group of individuals of differing backgrounds seeking to enhance the quality of life of the diverse community in Rathmines by working in co-operation with statutory, voluntary and commercial bodies and public representatives. The Rathmines Initiative was formed in 1998. The area of interest is Rathmines Road Lower and Upper, i.e. between Portobello Bridge and Dartry. Hopefully you will attend the Rathmines Open Gardens 2021 event on Sunday 13th June.
