Covid Death Of A Nurse

Donation protected
My mom is a nurse of 30 years and is currently was working under the VA in Syracuse, NY when this pandemic underwent. For roughly the past 5 months, this has been very difficulty for my family, as we watch my mother battle an ongoing fight with COVID19 and the secondary infections that have presented itself. She was tested numerous times with positive COVID19. She quarantine and then she was not able to breathe and her symptoms worsen dramatically. She eventually went to urgent care. The X-rays showed pneumonia, so they told her to go to the ER. She didn’t want to risk a secondary infection at the hospital, and she knew they didn’t have any magic treatment for this virus, but she couldn’t take care of herself and she was beyond the care my family could provide for her. There wasn’t any choice. She wrote down her end-of-life wishes, and had my brother drop her at the ER. They gave her a malaria drug, but it did absolutely NOTHING. They gave her an antibiotic for pneumonia, but she still couldn’t breathe without 15 liters of oxygen. They tried vitamin C, magnesium, shots of blood thinner, baby aspirin, Tums, multivitamins, Xanax, cough syrup with codeine. It was like fixing a car when you don’t know what’s broken. They gave her inhalers and breathing exercises to do every hour, but her oxygen level kept dropping. They had to call the respiratory team a few times while she was admitted to the hospital. They also wanted to put her on life support, but she was afraid she'd never come off it. Eventually they sent her home since the fever broke for a few days. They had her on medications and oxygen at home. However, that didn't seem to help much. The $1,200 stimulus went to rent and hospital co-pays, and now we’re burning through our savings. My family barely has work now due to the pandemic and can't afford the basics during this hardship. The doctors say she has blood clots in her lungs and a mass on some of her organs now. We are waiting to find out about the biopsy still. They’re trying to figure it out. There’s no timeline and no prognosis. Please help if you can. I understand fully if you are unable to, especially during a time when most can't work in the pandemic. At least spread her personal testimony from the Washington Post below so that people can understand how serious this virus affects our frontliners at the hospital, our loved ones (a sister, mother, daughter, grandchildren, friend, etc). This is not a hoax by the ruling class. This is an extremely real virus that is hurting my mother and has impacted her and my entire family greatly.  https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/05/09/seven-weeks-with-coronavirus/ I called my mom the night before and saw how out of it she was. I was able to tell my brother how to give her medicine with apple sauce so she would get it. Meanwhile we were waiting for the nurse and her doctors to call us back. Something told us that something was wrong but we couldn't figure out just what it was. The next morning my brother and her husband woke up to her barely breathing and the ambulance was called. She took her last breath in their arms as the EMT walked in on the situation. They tried for an hour doing CPR. They then rushed her to the hospital and was unable to keep her alive. She died on may 28, 2020. That same day I, her daughter, was in Texas trying to find a flight home and was not able to make it in time to my mother. They deny the autopsy because she had covid-19 and was not willing to perform it. We lay her to rest that Monday with a very small gathering of friends and family. She was loved by so many people and touched so many hearts. She was supposed to start chemo this past weekend June 6 2020. But she never made it. Her body could not fight any longer. Today, June 9 2020, her youngest son graduated from high school. She would have been so proud of him. She love him so much and always pushed him to his full potential. Now our family is suffering immensely from her death. My mother was the pillar in our family and know everything is falling apart. We cannot afford to live in the house because it is too much for one income. We had to return the lease and none of us knew it was up on May 20th. We were all trying to take care of my mom and her health. so we don't know how we are going to afford all the late fees that were acquired now for that lease on her car. We I have no clue how we are going to send the youngest son to college now that he has graduated high school. We don't know how we are going to pay the medical bills that keep piling up now. It has literally been a nightmare since May 28th 2020. She was a loving mother, incredible nurse, an amazing friend, a sister, an aunt, and so much more. She was a frontend worker who did not receiving any benefits or hazard pay for her work that she did at the VA. Now we are trying to figure out how we as a family will get through this financially, emotionally and spiritually.
