PTEN Mutation Mom

Hi, My name is Sheena. I have two amazing kids. A Boy turning 14 this December and a 5 year old baby Girl. I am a single mother who is battling my genetics. My mother passed away in 2016. She had breast cancer which turned into lung and bone. And I found out not too long after she was gone that I have a PTEN mutation gene that puts me as a significantly higher risk than the general population for all different cancers, Breast being the highest risk at 85%. So this Thursday 6/25/2020 I am having a preventative double mastectomy with reconstruction. I have already had thyroid cancer which strangely I was only at a 22% risk but hey, I guess that’s enough right? So I no longer have a thyroid and I’m on meds now for the rest of my life. Now I do work and I do have insurance but my reconstruction dr is on my out of network benefits so I have no clue what that bill will look like. Or any bill hereafter for that matter because I still have to have a colonoscopy and check other organs and things too. With this gene as I said before I am at risk for many different kinds of cancers so I’m basically going down the line one at a time and checking all different parts of my body and if I have it my way, removing all organs I don’t really need as to keep my risk down hopefully. I want to do any and everything I can to extend my life as long as possible for my children. This money would help me not worry so much about these incoming medical bills and help me and my kids sustain what my income doesn’t cover.
