Help build a Frederick Douglass monument for NBNY
Donation protected
Our goal is to raise enough money to erect a momument of Frederick Douglass in the city of Newburgh. With this money, we will employ an artist. The artist will be selected by the people of Newburgh. We will hold a public conference in which multiple artists share their concept and view of Frederick Douglass with the residents of Newburgh. As a community, through a discourse and vote, an artist will be decided and employed with these funds. These funds will also be used to compensate the administration of this project for their time and effort in organizing this project. A local foundry will be employed to cast the statue, and local movers will be paid to move the statue and supplies nessesary to implement this project. After the work is finished, we will gift the monument to the city of Newburgh. In the meantime, we need a location to put him, and we are open to any and every suggestion.
It is important that we commission this project because Frederick Douglass walked the streets of Newburgh in 1870 to let the people of Newburgh know that the 15th Amendment was passed. This Amendment was supposed to give every citizen the right to vote. Douglass' grass roots approach to organize, protest, orate, and educate is present in Newburgh today. Newburgh needs more art and statues of promident African Americans so her people can learn about her greatness and legacy. This statue will also benefit tourists alike and will be a beautiful addition to the already magnificent Newburgh, New York.
This year marks the 150th anniversay that Douglass was in Newburgh, and so it is imperative that we raise this money quickly! Please share this with everyone you know who might want to contribute, or knows someone to help.
