Help Guilly Get Top Surgery!!
Donation protected
Hey friends. I’m Bree. I’m organizing a gofundme for my boyfriend Guilly to get top surgery to complete his medical transition. I’ve been stashing money away for his surgery we started dating last year & it came up that he needed help gathering funds (after being denied by insurance & care credit) because he’s JUST that awesome. Unfortunately with the advent of COVID-19, both of us losing our jobs & finishing renovations on the camper van that is now our home on wheels, we’ve had to tap into those savings to cover basic living expenses & other things. Now, with his permission, I’ve created this gofundme in hopes that our community can pull together & help us reach our goal of paying for Guilly’s top surgery.
A little about him: Guilly is one of the best people I know. He’s currently about to enter his third year of law school & hopes to be a juvenile public defender when he graduates.
He donates his spare time to volunteering and serving on the board of a transgender name change clinic in Houston, Texas where he helps other trans people navigate the legal hurdles in our trash a** system so that their names and legal documents to reflect their identities. He’s spent weekends at camps for LGBT kiddos providing mentorship & an example that it does indeed get better for the next generation of our youth.
He’s also usually pretty busy with his law school’s Public Interest law organization to bring employment & scholarship opportunities to his classmates. Guilly loves to be useful (his words) so when he’s not doing general worldly good he seeks out ways to lend a helping hand to his friends & his family. He’s always got a joke, or a pun on hand & he’s hands down the best person to call when you need to smile. He’s the best step-dog-dad my two big ‘ol boys could have ever asked for & the most amazingly supportive partner I’ve ever had.
On top of being and doing all that he is & does, Guilly navigates working when and where he can, though admittedly the other things he does in pursuit of making the world a better place for kids and trans folks (and trans kids!) take precedence. So I’m here on his behalf asking for your help to do something that I know would mean the world to him.
As his partner I’ve watched his face light up with excitement about a camp that has a place to swim for the kids & then fall immediately afterwards upon realizing that he’ll have to navigate swimming with a top or forgo it completely. I’ve seen him set up a workout plan in hopes of feeling better about his body & then decide that the hassle of working out in a public gym or in a binder isn’t worth it. Mostly, I’ve gotten a front row seat to the multiple ways gender dysphoria triggered by not having top surgery done has diminished the spirit of someone who is otherwise a ray of sunlight & I personally don’t think the world can afford to lose him, or any of our trans siblings to something so easily rectified.
We’re currently moving into the camper renovation project I started before we met & the hope is that through minimizing our living expenses we’ll be able to save enough money to get married, buy some land and build a future together. But this one thing that Guilly needs that takes priority over all of it. I for one refuse to ask him to take any big life steps knowing he won’t fully enjoy them the way he’s dreamed of his entire life, and I realize that completing his transition is a large & necessary part of that.
So here I am, asking for your help to raise some funds to help one of the best humans I know, feel at home in his body. Your donations will help us cover the cost of surgery including: pre-op consultations, post-op check-ups and the costs of parking our camper near his surgeon’s office while he recovers (in case of complications).
I can’t begin to explain how much realizing this goal would mean to us, but especially Guilly as we begin to build a life together. Anything helps, and we love and appreciate you so so much for donating + sharing.
Thanks friends.❤️
