Memorial Ride for Brandy Hughes
Donation protected
I am raising money for a 540 mile hand/recumbent cycling ride in Brandy (Schott) Hughes' memory. We are departing Ft. Collins Colorado on the 3rd of September and heading toward Ft. Morgan Colorado where we will pick up the Platte river and follow it to until we reach Omaha Nebraska on the 10th.
I hope to raise enough money to donate to a family battling brain cancer.
Brandy Lyn (Schott) Hughes was born August 22, 1975, in Grand Island, NE. She spent her youth at Clarks and Central City, NE where she excelled in cross country and softball. Following her graduation from Central City she attended and played collegiate softball in Colby, KS. She later received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska.
She was known and loved, in large part, due to her unique style and personality. Her love of flair and fashion took her to Chicago where she worked for Marshall Fields. A strong affection for city life quickly evolved. In August, 2000, however, she was diagnosed with brain cancer and chose to move home closer to family. On May 3, 2003 she was married to Rustin Hughes in Kearney, NE. They made their home in Fort Collins, before moving back to Kearney. While living in Kearney, she worked for the Lodge Restaurant in public relations. She loved traveling with her family and friends and adored her time with her nieces and nephew.
Brandy chose personalized license plates that read, “B Bold”. This is how she lived her life; boldly. During her fight with cancer never a distressing word or the question of why. On July 12, 2012, Brandy died with Rustin and her family by her side. She did not lose her BOLD fight with cancer because her spirit never quit, her fragile body was simply no longer able to elude the effects of cancer. Brandy taught those she loved to have their own unique style and flair, to truly B-Bold!
