Helpful Steps was set up to provide a motivating venue with state-of-the-art rehabilitation devices and training programmes to help strengthen people with disabilities, which improves their health and long-term quality of life.

Stronger people live more productive and easier lives. They can do more and be more.

Our initial goal was to rehabilitate sports injuries, but we soon grew into a specialist centre for the rehabilitation of all injuries, metabolic diseases and spinal injuries.

In 2015, Elite Centre (the home of Helpful Steps) became the world’s first non-medical centre to have a Bionic Exoskeleton.

The exoskeleton allows users to stand up and mimic the walking function. The objective of providing a robotic exoskeleton is to ensure that people with lower limb weakness can get the benefits of walking regularly in a normalised gym environment, whilst still getting medical support. This fills a gap that exists once people reach the end of formal rehabilitation care.

The exoskeleton is currently at end of life and is under repair, meaning service users are left without and risk losing the progress they have made.

We are raising much needed funds to help replace the exoskeleton and purchase an Innowalk Pro. This is a robotic mobilisation and rehabilitation trainer, allowing users with severe disabilities to stand and move by offering exceptional flexibility in adjustment & support.

In physical rehabilitation, various therapeutic methods help a person restore or maintain functions due to diagnosis-related symptoms, illness, injury or post-surgical conditions. Whether it is in-patient or out-patient rehabilitation, the main goals are to safeguard body function and structure, to enable activity amd participation in everyday life for people with disabilities.
