Service Dogs for Two Precious Girls

Let me tell you a story about a wonderful family and two precious little girls that were adopted by this family. This story should read that these two angels grew up and lived happily ever after…..but as we all know it just doesn’t always happen that way. Here is their story:
Both of these girls had very traumatic beginnings to their lives. This couple was fostering at the time and when each girl came into their lives, they couldn’t bear letting them go and so they wrapped their arms around them and pulled them into their family. As several years go by it is obvious things aren’t right. This mom immediately started seeking answers. This mom is that mom we all wish we had, she was tenacious in finding treatment that would help these two cope with their journey through life.
The first one we will call her Angel B, spent many lonely hours as a tiny infant by herself. This has manifested into serious PTSD, severe anxiety, and a few other diagnoses. The other one we will call Angel S was born to drug addicted parents; their dangerous lifestyle has left a lasting effect on this little girl as being diagnosed with autism among other issues.
Dad works full time and Mom had to quit working so that she can transport these two to doctor appointments, counseling, and therapy sessions. This Mom doesn’t get to catch her breath often but she will do anything for these two. Recently the doctors have suggested therapy dogs for the girls. They can’t have just one dog as each child has different issues so two dogs will have to be trained, one for each child’s specific issues. Unfortunately Mom and Dad cannot come up with the funds to get even one of these dogs – and they need TWO.
The cost for one dog is approximately $1500.-1600, plus another$2400 to train each dog. Angel B already has a dog and he will have to be evaluated to see if he can be her therapy dog. If not, a therapy dog will have to be purchased for her. So just to purchase two therapy dogs and the training will cost almost $8.000. This is a two year training program for these dogs and the family will have to make an hour and half trip once a week for two years, so there is the extra expense of gas and all that goes with that wear and tear on a vehicle.
