Bakery Counter Girl

Hello,

My name is Cindy Whitman and I am an award-winning writer and a former bakery counter girl at The French Kiss.

As many of my Facebook friends know, I chronicled my wild and crazy, slightly romantic, heavily accented, and at times quite comical -- three-year adventure of opening and running a beach side Island bakery with "The Frenchman" in daily Facebook posts.

According to my more than 300 readers and their enthusiastic comments, these posts were a source of delight and endless entertainment, and I have received countless requests to turn my "postcards from the counter" into a novel.

Now, I'm ready to do just that.

And I need your help.

The famous author Virginia Woolf once said: "A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction."

Like Virginia Woolf and countless other women writers who have gone before me, money and a room are what I need right now so that I can hunker down for the next two months and write The French Kiss: Confessions of a Bakery Counter Girl.

I am lucky to have one of the top literary agents in New York who, like my wonderful and encouraging Facebook reader fan base, is eager to see this novel come to life and carried out into the world and into the hands of readers everywhere, so you can rest assured that you're not funding an unrealistic "Great American Novel" pipe dream.

I have an MFA in Creative Writing from Bennington College, and have been published in USA Weekend, HIlton Head Monthly magazine, and Skirt! magazine among others. I was a finalist for the Pen/Faulkner Pirate's Alley Prize for the Personal Essay, and I have been awarded writing fellowships from the UCross Foundation, The Vermont Studio Center, and The Cottages at Hedgebrook.

I am seeking the funds to cover living expenses while I to pull together and polishing the 335 pages (three years of writing) of Facebook posts I have collected and collated.

If you would help fund this project, I would be eternally grateful.

When the novel is published, I promise all contributors to  the Bakery Counter Girl fund will be gratefully acknowledged in the front of the book.

Thank you!
