Q's Conveyance Contribution

Donation protected
Hi there. If you don't know me, my name is Enrique Velazquez. I go by Q, and sometimes even "Doctor Q" (which is to say I'm a fictional doctor who specializes in aural engineering). I work in IT by day, and when not doing that I run a 501c3 nonprofit, host a podcast, DJ, MC, and volunteer at conventions.

So on May 2, I had a "case of the Mondays." And by that I mean having a brief second of distraction cause thousands of dollars of damage.

Behold! Here lies my beloved 2009 Toyota Yaris. I bought this lil guy in 2009 with only 14 miles on him. Fast forward 98,800 miles later and here we are. He was the first car I bought brand new off the lot as I tended to have the worst luck with used cars. He's been a good friend and has taken me to many a gig, event, and convention over the years.

At the end of the day I am grateful and happy I am OK, and everyone else involved in the collision were unharmed. It was just property damage and leaving the scene a bit sore and rattled is all.

So my insurance covers the other car and all damages to them (some minor medical exams to make sure they're OK plus a new rear bumper), but since April of 2015 I opted to forego comp & collision as it was paid off. Somewhere in my brain I was so focused on saving money month to month that I forgot how easily things can change.

I have a day job and I make good money, so if I had planned for this I could probably afford payments and get a new car today. But 18 months ago I bought a new car for my wife, and the past 3-4 years have seen one crisis after another and my debts tend to have me living paycheck to paycheck. Which is, I assume, all too common out there for a lot of us.

And now here I am without any way to get around and make it to my shows. Thankfully I have a great job I can work from home more often than not and make some mass transit arrangements for the few times a week I need to go into the office. I can make it a few weeks without.

But come May 20th, I'd like to be able to drive to my next gig in a temporary car to get my by for a couple of years until my wife's car is paid off and I can get a nice, new shiny car of my dreams.

I can raise around $2k on my own with what I have now and what I have coming in (before having to pay my ticket, but I hope it won't be too bad), so here's my plan: Hire me!

The reward tiers are to book me in advance for any wedding, show, convention, or gig you may want a DJ for. Don't want a DJ? I can help teach you some basic 6-count swing perhaps? Maybe you don't need a DJ? OK, how about a 30 minute, 1 hour, or 3 hour continuous mix track just for you!

All money raised will go to matching what I come up with and getting a decent used car to ride around in without adding to my pile of debt. In addition, some of the money ($200) will be used to book a venue and throw a BIG THANK YOU PARTY to all of you who donate. I'll plan the party in June/July and it'll be free of charge and my way of thanking you all for helping me out in my time of need. If (for some weird reason) I raise more than my stated goal, that means the budget for used car goes up. ALL the funds raised from now until May 20th goes to the car fund, and I'll shut this down afterwards and take what's raised to find the best deal I can find.

This asking for help feels uncomfortable and I wish I didn't have to do this. But I am totally willing to work for my wages and I would be incredibly grateful if you all could help.

Donation Amounts:
$.01+ - My most sincere thanks. Every cent counts.
$25+ - A 30 minute continuous DJ mix via Dropbox MP3. Your choice of theme (steampunk, mashup, electro swing, or a mix of all of them.)
$50+ - Same as above, but an 1 hour continuous mix.
$100+ - Same as above, but a 3 hour continuous mix.
$200+ - I'll come DJ your party! For this donation, I will reach out to you with my availability and be willing to play a 1-2 hour set at your house party, event, whatever. ATL area only. (For an extra $100 I'll toss in dance lessons)
$300+ - Same as above, but I'll spin for 2-4 hours and if you're willing to toss in couch space or hotel, I'll even play your Convention/Event/Festival/whatever.
$500+ - Same as above, but I'll travel outside the ATL area (within an 8-9 hour drive from ATL) and can either find crash space or cover a modest travel arrangement for myself if need be.
$800+ - I'll play your wedding. (Yes, this is how much I love you guys. I never do weddings normally unless it's someone special. And if you help out that much, you more than earn it.)
