Hey everyone, my name is Megan and I am a 29 year old bartender/manager at a neighborhood bar in southeast Portland called Hobnob Grille. I absolutely love what I do. I have come to meet a lot of amazing people, who I can now call my friends and family. I can hardly call it work because I always have a good time when I am there.
About 2 weeks ago I fractured my ankle and have been unable to work. Now, I am used to working 6 days a week...so this has been a big change from me running around constantly to having to lay on the couch with my leg elevated at all times. At first we thought that the ankle would need surgery since it is a trimalleolar fracture (broken in 3 places). Apparently my body doesn't hate me too much and the ankle actually aligned itself perfectly so it would be pointless to do surgery. Now all I have to do is keep the ankle in position and it should heal fine on its own.
That doesn't, however, change my heal time. I will be unable to work for 8 weeks. Which means I will not have any income for 2 months...a very long time for someone who relies on tips to pay her bills.
This is probably the hardest thing I have ever had to do...to ask for help. I'm asking for help with the medical bills I have recieved already which total 2500. I honestly hate that I am in a position that I have to reach out to my family and friends, but I don't know what else to do.
I can't begin to express my gratitude to all of you, and how emotionally indebted I will be. All I can say is thank you.
