Jamie Laird's Freak Floorball Inury

Donation protected

Jamie and his family have become a massive part of the Pakenham Floorball Club over the past few years.

Last Sunday during our Mens Elite game, Jamie sustained a hit whilst playing in goals, resulting in the fracture to numerous parts of his spine.

Ive been playing Floorball for almost 20 years now, and in all my time, I have never seen an injury quite like this.  Jamie put his body on the line, having nothing but eyes for the ball as he slid out infront of 2 charging players who were also going hard at the ball. What resulted was a freak accident. One that could of left Jamie paralysed for life. As one of the field players hip collided with the top of Jamie's head (helmet) causing his spine to jar back into itself.  Jamie was immediately rushed to hospital, with the news on the injury only getting worse and worse.

Jamie was eventually transferred to the Austin hospital (the leading in Neurosurgery in the state) where he underwent spinal surgery. Upon a successful operation on the fracture to the C1, C5 and C7 vertebrae, the Surgeon informed Jamie that in all his time in witnessing these sorts of injuries, only he (Jamie) and one other person have been able to walk away from them.  This is how close he came to be paralysed.

Anyone who knows this family would know that they have recently had a terrible run with medical incidences, and although most of Jamies medical costs have been covered, there are always the ongoing additional costs and strains on family life that these injuries inevitably
cause.

Jamie is predicting to be home from hospital tomorrow (Saturday), however he will be on the couch for the next 6 weeks (with very little ability to perform ay normal task), and is unable to say when he will be able to return to work.

Obviously, any help in this situation would be more than appreciated by his family.  And any little financial contribution could go a long way.
