Homeless in Melbourne - help me turn my life around
Hi, my name is Josh, VFL umpire, uber driver, musician and now HOMELESS. I never thought it would come to this but after losing my job in 2015 and a serious bout of depressive illness I find myself at rock bottom.
I lost my 1 Bedroom Rental, lost my job and my life fell apart. I've struggled ever since and now my 2 year old beagle x bloodhound (Lucy) and I are crashing out on friend's lounges. I'm rapidly spiralling down and I urgently need secure housing. Can you help by contributing to my bond and first month rent fund? Here's my full story and situation below. I would be very grateful for your help. It will change my life... Maybe even save my life.
My story:
After completing a Diploma in Community Services in 2014 I got my first 'real job' as a mental health worker! This was an ideal role as I have struggled and overcome previous bouts of mental illness and wanted to help others. Sadly I was let go and lost my job after only several months. This was a huge blow to my confidence and I've struggled to secure a permanent role since.
I'm also a folk singer-songwriter and part of a great community of like-minded performers. As with many in this area it's been hard to make a living and I've looked for work outside of the industry.
Recently I started my own business working as an uber driver. Whilst this is new I'm getting a decent amount of work and feeling hopeful about it; still it's nor enough $ at this stage to have saved rent and bond for a new place.
We have tried applying for share housing with no luck, we have tried applying for private rentals with no luck; I even volunteered as a Lead Tenant, in a rent-free role working with children on protection orders; but this only exacerbated by condition and led to me being forced out of the program.
I am a kind natured person with nowhere else to turn. If I don't secure housing soon, I fear I will be forced into another period of unemployment, or even worse...
Would you be able to contribue to our cause? Lucy and I would be ever so thankful if you did. This is the last, vital missing piece in my puzzle, to restore my life and be able to move forward.
