My son, Adam, is a chef in San Francisco and lives in Oakland. He was mugged 6 weeks ago at 4th & Townsend. He was taken to SF General for a CT scan and went home with a broken rib, a smashed face and a stabbed hand. The medical bills came in at $3,300.
He was leaving work on Thursday night when he was attacked by 7 men and 1 woman near the Montgomery BART station. They circled him and beat him up really badly. He went back to SF General for another CT scan, and now has (more) extensive bruises, a fractured cheekbone, a concussion, chipped teeth, and short-term memory problems. He wants to go back to work as soon as possible, but he can't stand for long periods of time without getting dizzy. He's in bad shape. As you can tell by the picture, he fortunately hasn't lost his sense of humor or positive outlook.
Adam is a nice kid - he hasn't done anything to deserve this, and he may be more at risk since he often has to walk to the train late at night. Being in the restaurant industry, he can't afford insurance, and he certainly can't afford these expenses.
We're assuming the new bills will come in around the same cost as the first round, another $3,300. The extra $400 is to get his teeth fixed and buy him some much needed pepper spray.
We don't want to inconvenience anyone, but we're hoping that if a lot of people can give a little, we can get through this without a lot of additional trauma.
We would be SO grateful for anything you can contribute!
Be careful. Heads up - there are a lot of crazies out there!
Thank you! Angi (and Adam, of course)
