Marv's Miraculous Knee

Donation protected
Hey! I'm Marv! I've been playing roller derby for the Salisbury Rollergirls for the last 6 years and cant imagine my life without it, nor did I ever think I would have to. But as we all know life sometimes has other plans. On April 12th at practice I twisted my knee. I went to the doctor the next morning to have it looked at just to be safe. He felt it was a mild sprain, gave me a brace and sent me on my way. That weekend I headed to Rome, New York for a tournament with my league. It was a great experience. Fast forward to April 30th. Salisbury had a double header home game. It was a tough game with lots of heart in it from everyone. With 7 minutes to go in the game I felt a pop in my knee as I was blocking someone. I took myself out of that jam along with the game. Afterwards I headed to the ER to have it checked. The doctor seemed to think it was a meniscus tear, but not a bad one. I had high hopes. That is until I went to the orthopedic surgeon on Wednesday. He told me something no one, especially no derby player, wants to hear. Complete tear of the ACL and bucket tear of my meniscus. I will need two surgeries. One, next Wednesday, to strengthen my meniscus before we can even look at the ACL surgery. That will be in 2 months. Needless to say I've been devastated. I cried. And I cried some more. I've always been strong and bounced back from injuries within a few days, weeks at the most. This one will take months.

The hardest part of all of this besides being off skates for 6+ months? I am also out of work. I'm a meat cutter, I toss around 75+ pounds of meat on a daily basis. This injury is really putting me in a dark spot.

That being said, I know I have a strong support system through the derby community. I have insurance that will cover alot of medical bills but cost of living alone wont be covered by it.  Handwritten notes and video message shout outs are probably the most I can offer right now, but those are pretty great, right?  I also have some neat shirts with my face on them laying around.

Lets get me fixed so I can come hit everyone again!
