My husband and I were blessed to have two healthy children.  We raised both boys to be responsible, reliable and dependable.  Work hard, be respectful to others and help people in any way and whenever possible.

There is a phrase believed to have originated with a saying coined by the Ancient Greek physician, Hippocrates, which appears in his Aphorisms.  Desperate times call for desperate measures which means in adverse circumstances actions that might have been rejected are the best choice.

Unfortunately this is a desperate time for one of our sons. Our youngest son Trent, at age 20, when away at college, contracted a virus. When he was initially seen at the hospital they believed it to be spinal meningitis. A spinal tap was performed but by the grace of God the results were negative.  He was treated and seemed to have a full recovery.

In 2012, Trent woke up one morning and his heart all of a sudden was beating over 150 beats per minute and he had not even stepped out of bed yet. He started to experience fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness and lack of energy. Picking his clothes up off the floor would make him dizzy and sweat profusely.  He went to the doctor and was eventually diagnosed with constant Atrial Flutter and Supraventricular Tachycardia when he was 28 years old. The virus he had contracted in college had localized in his heart creating scar tissue causing heart damage.

With his heart going over 150 bpm 24 hours a day, his only choice was to have a catheter ablation performed in December 2012.  That procedure did not fix the issue and his heart was still stuck in Supraventricular Tachycardia causing extreme fatigue and risk of heart failure or stroke. Five months later, May of 2013 a second surgery was performed to correct the issue.  The following month after his 2nd procedure he became a proud father to a happy healthy baby boy.  This was their second child. All of us sadly lost the first baby, a little baby girl, in the second trimester.  Camilla, the name they picked for the baby girl they lost, had extensive health issues which required extensive medical tests and medical bills.

Next on the road of life his wife had to have an emergency appendectomy.  Medical bills for the two extremely expensive heart surgeries he paid 100% of, but with the additional 2 births and emergency surgery for his wife it added up to the tens of thousands of dollars.

Since his last heart surgery in 2013 Trent has lost over 100 pounds the hard way in an effort to get healthy by exercise and diet. Depression and the inability to work out because of his heart condition caused him to put on the weight.

So this is why my son needs your help. He needs yet another surgery. Without the surgery he remains at high risk for a stroke or heart attack.  He is only 32 and has worked very hard at paying for the medical expenses listed above all by himself but he is falling farther and farther into debt.

We are all being blessed with the privilege of having another baby this summer. He could really use the help of kind, caring, compassionate individuals to contribute to the medical expenses towards the third heart surgery.  He already feels terrible about the medical expenses taking money away from his family and his children’s future.

With 2 step children, a toddler and a newborn on the way, he and his wife are really busy. Between work, sporting events for the older children ages (12 & 10), carpool, chasing the toddler, the finances for a new born are very tight.

So applies the phrase, desperate times call for desperate measures. Asking for financial help is not something that my husband and I would ever have considered in the era we grew up.   But times have changed and this isn't about us. It is about a family of soon to be 6 that have been dealt many scary unfortunate events over the past 3 1/2 years. Not by their own choices or actions but by life.  My husband and I do not want to lose our son to stroke or a heart attack, nor do his wife and children, so we are asking for your help. These are adverse circumstances happening in Trent and his family’s life and even though in the past my husband and I might have rejected asking for help from others like this, taking action to do so is the best choice.  He needs help, his family needs help and we want our son to grow old with his children to be a part of his grand children’s lives.  He is a positive example for all those around him, contributing to society, setting a good example for all and taking on considerable debt doing the right things for his loved ones. He is that man and much more, we just want to help him get the surgery necessary to make this all happen so he can continue to be that man in years to come.

So please help this family in their financial circumstances.
