Medical Funds/SCAD Survivor
Donation protected
I am not the SCAD survivor, I am merely the daughter of one. I have created this gofundme account because I know our family could use any help we receive. My mother isn't only a proud person but she also is very caring and concerned for others. She doesn't want anyone to go out of their way for her. I am asking for help on her behalf and I guess for mine as well because whether she wants to admit it or we need some help.
Cecily Newton, my mother, is a 44 year old mother of 5. On Thursday, March 24th she had her first (and hopefully only) scare with SCAD and a heart attack. For those that don't know what SCAD is, and many don't, it stands for Spontaneous Coronary Artery Disscection. According to SCADresearch.org, it is when the "inner layer of a coronary artery splits. Blood seeps between the artery layers, forms a blockage and starves the heart muscle. Depending on the speed with which the dissection is diagnosed and treated, the result of SCAD ranges from chest pain (angina), heart attack, or death." This isn't one of those issues that's caused by eating poorly, being overweight or not taking care of yourself. At this time it is believed to be caused by stress, hormonal changes and smoking. I ask that everyone, especially the women read up on this, since it is believed to be more common in females. As a result of the SCAD Cecily had to remain in the Cardiac ICU for a week between two hospitals. She had multiple Angiocatheters and medications administered. She was told to "stay calm", stay home from work and show up for Cardio Rehabilitation.
Any and all funds used will help finance the medical bills received as a result of this incident. Unfortunately, medical bills are expensive; between the hospital stays, hospital transfers, medication, Cardiology Rehabilitation and abulence costs, it has been difficult for our family to cover the expenses. Not to mention Cecily is unable to work and is on unpaid FMLA. Unfortunately, she worries that she may not be able to go back to work since it requires heavy lifting and she is prohibited from lifting. I am not writing this to make anyone feel bad. I simply want to be thorough and let everyone know that this is a legitimate cause. Any money received will not be wasted or used on anything other than medical expenses.
I know it asks how soon we need the funds, well....we need them whenever we receive them. We would never put a time limit because this is a favor to us. There is no set goal amount because the total costs have yet to be calculated or presented to us. Plus, anything and everything would help. I appreciate people just taking the time to read this gofundme. At least it's a way for people to hear about and possibly learn more about SCAD. I know everyone in my family is thankful regardless of any funds received. Thank you to friends, family and anyone who donates.
