In June 2023 Carl started to experience abdominal discomfort which eventually lead to debilitating abdominal pain. After several doctor’s appointments and various suspected causes, it was determined to be Stage 4 Pancreatic cancer, with Pancreatic Ascites.

This began a journey for Carl & Brandy to not settle for the statements given to them, but rather seek out hope by any means necessary. Brandy and Carl traveled to Texas in early November to see specialist at MD Anderson Cancer Center for another opinion, a plan of care and most of all…HOPE. They were treated with the utmost care and compassion while in Texas. Carl received his port and first round of chemotherapy while in Texas. After returning to North Carolina Carl met with a new doctor at UNC Rex and together they agreed on a plan of action to overcome this hurdle and transform this test into a testimony for both Carl and Brandy. There have been so many blessings during these past few months including doctors, treatment, both of their employers, friends and family. Recently carl had a new serious complication, putting him in the hospital—bilateral pulmonary emboli which are blood clots in both lungs, causing severe pain and major difficulties breathing. Brandy acted with strength and grace, finding the care that Carl needed and plan of action to overcome this immense challenge and transform it to a triumph of spirit and true love for both. Their PTO and sick time are being depleted due to the care and traveling prior to today. This will create substantial loss of income for Brandy so that she can be with Carl and be his advocate every step of the way. Carl and Brandy have always been the first people to help others when they needed it without question or hesitation, and never expecting anything in return. If you are able to donate any amount to help offset their loss of income, costs of travel expenses, and afford their family the blessing of being together as much as possible their family would be eternally grateful.
