My grandparents told me to dream big. So I did. They told me I could create the life that I want and I want to go to college.
I'm an honor roll student, volunteer at church and work part time. I earned the money to buy my own car, pay for car insurance and my cell phone.
As far as college goes, I've worked hard to get good grades. I've applied for financial aid, grants and scholarships. Unfortunately, I'm still coming up short.
My father has been out of the picture since I was 4. Although my mother has always supported us on her own, she is now on disabilty as a result of a car accident unable to help with tuition.
I've enrolled in Kean University beginning in the fall 2016. It is my dream to study psychology so I can enter into a career helping others. Tuition for my first year of college is $7,345, $1,384 for books, $3,899 for fees and $12,200 for room and board. As I'm unable to live with my mother right now, I need to live on campus.
I can't imagine what my life would look like without further education. I don't see any other option but to go to college.
When I was touring Kean University campus with my grandmother, she asked me if I ever imagined going away to college. I answered "I never doubted it".
I've learned to overcome obstacles at an early age. It would seem unreasonable for someone making $8.38 an hour to expect to go to college, but I believe in miracles. I would be so grateful for your help. Even the smallest of contribution would be appreciated (after all I only make $8.38 an hour). Any help would make a difference. Thanking you in advance.
