For our daughter Nikki with Cancer
Donation protected
Our daughter Nikki Baird Anderson was diagnosed with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma in August of 2013, at the age of 40. ACC is a rare and aggressive cancer that "arises within secretory glands, most commonly the major and minor salivary glands of the head and neck," with up to a 5 year life expectancy. Nikki went straight to Dana Farber in Boston, MA when she was first diagnosed for treatment. She had major surgery to remove nodes and glands in her neck which was followed by Radiation and Chemotherapy and she went into remission. In June of 2015 we received the devastating news that the cancer was back. Nikki had cancer cells on her back and leg which she underwent Radiation and went into remission. Shortly after they found cancer in her lungs. Fortunately there was a trial drug for the lung cancer that the Doctors put Nikki on right away. This drug slowed the growth and shrank many of the cells. When Nikki started getting painfully sick in her abdomen area she went several times in the past few months to the local Hospital Emergency room. This only downgraded the pain for a temporary relief. Nikki had a painful bout and went to Dana Farber on April 20th of this year. Nikki was told she has cancer cells growing in her Liver causing it to swell and press against other organs.
Nikki is a Warrior! She has been fighting so hard for so long. The Anderson Family has gone through 3 years of hospital visits to Dana Farber, hospital emergency rooms, doctors offices most several hous away. As a result, the medical bills are piling up as well as expenses driving to Boston several times a week. The new trial drug Nikki just started taking requires a specific and expensive diet.
As Nikki's parents we are doing everything in our power to help our daughter and her family through this devastating time.
