Help Save Chewy

Hi Friends!

I'm sad to share with you that Chewy, aka Mr. Face, aka Chew Chews has come down with a sudden and very unexpected illness that has required extensive medical treatment. On Friday he was diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder where his immune system is attacking his red blood cells and causing him to be severely anemic (The reason for his yellow color vs his healthy pink glow). He has been staying at the emergency vet clinic since Friday and has required blood transfusions and a feeding tube. This illness is tough in that no cause can be identified and no prognosis can be given for certain. Some dogs recovery fully and others don't - it just takes time and supportive care to get the dogs through it. Meanwhile, as anyone with a pet knows, the vet costs add up quickly. To date, the cost to diagnose and treat is $5k. We will do the best we can for Chewy to give him a chance to beat this, while ensuring he is not in any pain. As you can imagine, we all have an extra special bond with him as my sister and Jimmy's only "fur baby". He's become a full family member of three households between my family and my parents. He's been a God send to us all as we continue to grieve Steph's loss. It's heartbreaking at the thought of losing him so soon (he's 6 years old).
