Wheel Chair Van for Lynda Warren

Donation protected
Good evening -- my name is Dee Warren. Along with my sister, Stacie Winslow, I come to you on behalf of our mom and dad, Lynda and Jim Warren.

As many of you know, our mom was recently diagnosed with ALS. As Stacie, my  sister, so eloquently put it: "ALS are three letters that will not define or damper the will of God's humble servant, and our mom, Lynda."

As the disease has progressed, it has robbed her of her mobility. The good people of Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Derby came to the house and installed a wheelchair ramp to allow her out of the house. That was only half the battle, however.

Mom has been laboring to climb in and out of dad's truck for many months. That task has become too much. Today, May 9, dad signed a loan on a wheel-chair accesible van. This van will give my mom back some of her life.

With the van, she will be able to more easily attend appointments at the ALS Clinic at KU Med in Kansas City. She will be able to attend the graduations of her two oldest grandchildren. And she will be able to visit friends and loved ones.

This van will allow her to reach one of her goals: to LIVE by being mobile and as active as she can.

Many people have asked how they can help. Our standard answer has been "any way you want..." Now Stacie and I can humbly be more specific: the van that mom and dad purchased is very expensive but needed. It has features to keep mom safe and the electric ramp allows dad to assist with minimal effort.

The monthly need is $600. However, the loan will be paid off as funds are raised, saving hundreds in interest.

Stacie and I do not take this campaign lightly. We are already humbled by the out pouring of love and support that we have recieved from family, friends, and total strangers. If you are interested in helping out, please feel free. If you want to assist but do not feel comfortable donating online, you may send your donation to me and I will deposit in their checking account.

Lastly, we ask that you DO NOT mention this to our dad. He is a proud man and would be embarrassed that we are asking for assistance.

I'll leave you with this: I have made many trips to Derby in the past few weeks. My spirits are lifted as I pass Exit 72 where I always pause to read a billboard that says: I can do all this through him who gives me strength -- from Philippians 4:13. That simple message carries my spirit as I travel south.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
