My brother, Brian Desormeaux NREMT-P, was severely injured while transporting a patient on Mother's Day, 5/8/2016. Their ambulance was struck from behind by another driver going approximately 95 mph on Interstate 10 in Grammercy, LA.  Their unit traveled sideways for a short distance till the leading wheel went down the embankment.  The ambulance then proceeded to roll 4 times, coming to rest on the passenger's side.  He was performing patient care when they were struck.  As everyone in our field knows, he tumbled along with any loose equipment.  www.theadvocate.com  Has the article originally from the accident.  It was also covered by ems1 on Facebook. I cannot go into further detail due to the  Louisiana State Police's ongoing investigation.

He was air lifted by helicopter to the nearest trauma center, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge LA.  His injuries include: 8 broken ribs, broken right shoulderblade, T-6-10 transverse vertebrae fractures, lumbar spinous process fractures (all are in the spinal column) as well as a small pneumothorax (collapsed lung) on the left side which they are trying to reinflate with oxygen. As of yet, he does not require a chest tube.

His wife, Wendy, has been by his side throughout this ordeal.  To complicate matters, he and I were the primary caretakers of our elderly father since our mother passed away on 4/6/2016 unexpectedly from knee replacement complications.

While a portion of his expenses will be covered by Workman's Comp, this will still not be enough to replace his normal salary.  As those that are in EMS know, we are not in this for the money.

He was there for my when I had my accident 11/3/2015 when I was struck by a drunk driver, I am trying to be here for him now.

The monies will be used for daily expenses we all take for granted.  I ask that regardless of how you can help, prayers are always welcomed.

If you cannot help, please share the link to as many as possible.

We are an EMS family. Myself, my wife, and my brother are/were paramedics.

Thank you all in advance.  I will post updates on his condition as soon as available.
