Vietnam Veteran In Need

Help Vietnam Veteran and His Wife

Richard is a Marine Corp veteran that is struggling to pay his bills and his medical bills.  Richard did 3 tours in Vietnam and was a POW for 79 days before they escaped.

Richard and I met in 1987 and have been together ever since.  We married in 1991 and just recently celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary.

My husband has recently run into all kinds of health problems:  abdominal aortic aneurysm, aortic valve replacement, end stage COPD, heart attack, growing lung mass.

We are looking for funds in order to help pay medical bills, cover everyday expenses as I am on FMLA to care for him, and to also cover his burial expenses.  Richard had always thought that applying for life insurance was asking to die.  For that reason, he never obtained coverage.  Plus I think he thought he would never die or that I would go before he did.

His prognosis is that he will most likely pass within 6 months.  It may be longer if he doesn't have the stress of finances.  We live a pretty simple life.  We don't have extravagant things, we don't and can't travel.  Our only concern at this time is to cover the expenses listed above and to allow me the time from work to care for him at home.

Richard only receives his Medicare check and a small disability check from the VA.  They consider his issues to be non-service related although he was exposed to agent orange as well as other things during his 3 tours in Vietnam.

He he is a good man.  He literally took care of me for all the time we were together until his health declined.  He drove me everywhere, cooked, cleaned, shopped, and paid bills.  Now he is unable to do anything and I am the only one who can work.  I have had to take FMLA and we have lost a huge portion of our funding to live on.

Medicare and the VA will not provide enough help to care for him so I can return to work.  In a couple of weeks we will start getting shut off notices on our utilities .  We will not have enough for groceries and medical bills for his care are already coming in.  I had to add him to my insurance through work as the VA is awful at caring for our veterans and should be ashamed of themselves.  I will lose both mine and his coverage as I won't be able to keep up the premiums.  And actually, if I add in the premiums, the 25,000.00 probably isn't quite enough but it will help.

There is no bright outlook for Richard.  He is terminal from more than one disease process going on in his body.  He is torn apart by fear of the financial situation he has left me in with no way to fix it.  I want him to have peace of mind during his last months of life.  It's the least he deserves.

We aren't asking for butt loads of money.  Just enough to pay outstanding bills, pay rent, and hopefully have enough to bury him.  I am sure I'll be fine after he is gone as long as we can cover everything.

These funds are needed ASAP as we have already received shut off notices and bills from collection agencies.

Please help me give Richard some peace of mind for his last few months.  I would like him to be able too pass freely into the next world without fear of what will happen to me holding him back.  He doesn't deserve that.  He's given me so much that I really do want him to be worry free.

Please help asap.  You have no idea how much it would mean to both of us.  Richard is too proud to ask for help as am I normally.  It's a sign of how desperate I am to help him to be comfortable mentally before he dies.   He is currently sitting up at St. Francis Hospital after a round of acute respiratory failure.  Please, please, help me do this for him so he can be at peace.

Thank you you for at least reading this.
