SUPPORT CHRIS THROUGH HER CANCER TREATMENT

Donation protected
In the fall of 2023, my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. Specifically, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. This may come as a shock to some of you, as she chose to deal with this privately until she had decided on a treatment plan. As with all people who are diagnosed with cancer, this news altered the course of her and our family's lives instantly. Personally, having my sister get breast cancer was very unexpected. Having been so active, healthy, and vibrant her whole life. But the thing is, cancer doesn't discriminate. It is time for Christina to focus on her healing. My sister needs our help.

Christina is a proud member of the Lower Similkameen Indian Band. She has roots in the Okanagan, Vancouver island, and Nelson. Her love for mountain sports brought her to the Kootenays almost 28 years ago. She is a dedicated yogi who, on any given day, is out climbing mountains and swimming in the coldest waters. She's a skier, an avid runner, and a health enthusiast. Her contagious smile and spontaneous sense of humor bring laughter and warmth wherever she goes. She raised two incredibly talented, ambitious, kind, and intelligent daughters (Phoenix & Kierra) in this community. She has been an active participant in the girls' school, dance academy, and sports organizations. She is a dear friend to many and has spread joy with her unbelievably nurturing spirit.

When Christina was faced with the news of being diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, none of the treatment options presented resonated with her. In part, because of her strong background in Chinese Medicine and nutrition, she was hoping for a more holistic path. Ultimately, the choice to undergo surgery was an extremely difficult decision for her.

Christina is currently on the waitlist for a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction at the cancer clinic in Kelowna. She will be awaiting a surgery date in the weeks to come.

A double mastectomy is a significant surgical procedure often chosen as part of breast cancer treatment or risk reduction. It involves the removal of both breasts, which can have profound physical and emotional implications for individuals undergoing this procedure. The recovery process can vary from person to person. Still, it is typically a major surgery with a substantial healing period. It can take several months for physical healing to progress, and it might be a year before Christina can resume her normal daily activities.

This woman is strong, brave, and ready to take on this new challenge. As a collective, we are rallying together to help support my sister and her two beautiful girls through this difficult time.

We recognize that Christina will be unable to work while she undergoes treatment and recovery for several months. The funds raised will help to ease the financial stress of covering her accommodation as she relocates to Kelowna and ongoing support for bills, medication, supplements, physiotherapy, and mental health support.

We realize these are strenuous times for many, so any amount you contribute will be greatly appreciated. Please share with family and friends if you feel they would like to help out.

When I think of strength, I think of my sister, Christina Seagrin. As my sister's treatment progresses and evolves, we will continue to share updates here. On behalf of Chris, her family & friends, we would like to send a sincere thank you - it is incredibly appreciated.

We love you, Chrissy, you've got this.
