Face Shields Against COVID-19

Our team XLR8, consisting of Desmen Boykin and Thomas Byrne, have been working non-stop for the past two weeks to 3D print Face Shields for local hospitals.
     This idea started when a student from UVA reached out to Desmen and asked if he could print a few face shields for her team down at their work space. Accepting quickly Desmen requested the help of Thomas Byrne to start 3D printing these shields. Desmen was the winner of the Prince William County Regional Science fair in his division twice now, and through this it has helped him get many resources to help the cause against COVID-19. Thomas Byrne has been 3D printing for the past 4 years and runs his own school's Makers Lab. They met through robotics, being on a team together making it to the state championships, and really getting to know how to work well with each other.
     Together they have now made over 50 shields in just a week, and as more publicity and interviewing has been done, they have had requests for over 200 more.  As daunting a task this is, they hope to be able to shadow that number and help nurses and doctors state or even country wide. With the help of donations, materials, and more printers they hope to be able to achieve this goal.
