Monster & Sea 24 Team Tri-Cities 2019
Cancer is a taker. It wants everything from us - our health, our confidence, our families. And it is relentless. Statistics say 1 in 3 people arm wrestle with cancer, but what about the other 2 people? Our job is to stand in the gap. Fill the void with love, compassion, and our ability to GO when our friends can't.
This is what the 24 is all about. It was started by one man and grew into a community of people who live by the credo: "Go because you can." Go because you're healthy. Go because you can help.
Go, because if you don't, who will?
The Monster & Sea 24 started in the spring of 2015, when 6 people in Seattle, led by Troy Nebeker from Monster and Sea (monsterandsea.com), did a relay paddle for 24 hours to raise funds for families who were dealing with cancer. That team raised over $7,000. In 2016, the 24 grew to 7 teams and these groups raised over $50,000. In 2017 it blew up to over 22 teams, this time collectively raising over $140,000! In 2018 there were a total of 26 teams and they raised $156,000! This year we join 39 other teams across the US and Canada!
On April 13, 2019 at 8:00 AM, a team of paddlers will relay paddle for 24 hours.
Our goal is to offer a breath of fresh air to families dealing with the wrecking ball of cancer. It is a chance for them to feel "normal" even just for a minute.
This is cash, in an envelope, put in the hands of folks who need it. That money will go to the mountain of bills that come, food, babysitters, gas money, utility bills, groceries or maybe take the family away for a weekend to get a break from the chaos. Whatever the recipient needs to lighten the burden of cancer.
And most importantly, they will know that they are not alone, that there is an entire community who loves and supports them.
Here's how it works: Your donations will go directly into a bank account administered by Northwest Paddleboarding. Every dollar stays right here in the Tri-Cities and does not go to any expenses incurred by putting on this event. When we learn of a person in need, we will place $1,000 increments of cash into an envelope, and deliver it directly to the recipient. This is 100% grassroots. It's a community getting together to help our own.
Our team will be comprised of 6 paddlers and breaks down to pairs for each hour. We all paddle together for the first hour, again leading up to the midnight hour and finishing out the last hour together.
How you can help:
You can donate. Any amount would be incredibly appreciated.
You can share. Via social media or email, encourage your friends, family and followers to contribute.

You can join us. On shore or on the water during the 1st hour at 8am on April 13th, leading up to the midnight hour at 11pm, and/or at the last hour at 7am on April 14th to help us rally together and keep the stoke going for the full 24 hours all in an effort to raise much needed funds.
This simple idea is very special and as one person it is difficult to make a difference... but as a community, we can truly make an impact.
"There is a community of people who are fighting for you. Our hope is that this will give you a moment of peace during a crazy time. Love from the Monster and Sea Community."
