As many of you known me from working in Jefferson Parish as a forensic investigator for the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. I retired from Jefferson and moved to Thibodaux and took on the challenge of rebuilding the Coroner's Office in Lafourche Parish. I am married to Melody Goldman and have 7 grandchildren that are always at our home.
Last June of 2015, I was hospitalized due to becoming dehydrated and out of control blood sugars. I was very quickly diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease and spent most of the summer in the hospsital. I was placed on dialysis treatments 3 days a week and started to improve, but the only further outlook is a kidney transplant. Just to get on ther transplant list is difficult as numerous medical procedures and testing must be performed and then the transplant team decides if one is able to be a good receiptiant. I went back to work in a slower pace and more of an administrative role. I do my treatments three times a week and go to work afterwards, it is very hard at times, but I can't just sit home. I love to teach and share my forensic knowledge and recently just started a few classes at Fletcher College.
I will be traveling to Iowa for an evaluation for transplant, everything is looking good and this hospital has a fast turn around with transplant listings. Thank God my insurance covers so much, but out of pocket expenses such as travel, hotel, food, etc. are not covered. I will also be out of work and will have to stay in Iowa for at least 4-5 weeks, I will be waiting for the call from the transplant team and will have 4-6 hours to be in Iowa from New Orleans. A medical air jet will be on standbye at all times .
Most of you see my funny and witty facebook posts and know that I am a loving individual and always been there for anyone that I can help. My grandchilden need there paw paw and I need them. If you can contribute any amount it will be very much appreciated, if you can not afford to, please just say a prayer and that will mean a lot. I don't want anyone contributing that can not afford it. We will keep everyone up to date and the progress that we look forward to. I value everyones friendship and appreciate your kindness.
Thank you so very much!
Love,
Mark Goldman
