Save Our Democracy

Dear Family and Friends:

On November 5, our son Lionel will be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah. Many of you have asked for gift suggestions.

In lieu of gifts, we would be deeply grateful for contributions to the effort to save our democracy.

If Democrats don't prevail in the midterm elections this fall, not only will the Republicans be far better equipped to steal the presidency in 2024 as Trump tried to do in 2020, but they have announced their intention to impeach President Biden for anything they can think of and seize power immediately.

Trump is now openly embracing Qanon -- an explicitly anti-Semitic conspiracy theory calling for Trump's enemies to be executed on live TV once he's back in power -- at his rallies by wearing a Q pin on his lapel, playing the Qanon theme song, and directing his audience to perform the Qanon salute which bears an unmistakable visual similarity to a Nazi salute. If the GOP is allowed to seize power in the midterms, the USA will be a fully fascist country long before 2024.

Even if we hold onto the Senate, which is by no means a given, election deniers are running for election-controlling positions (such as Governor or Secretary of State) in many different swing states.

Rather than try to determine how to distribute funds to most strategically contain these threats, we will give every dollar we raise here to trusted umbrella orgs and let them do triage in as informed a way as possible. Right now, we plan to distribute the total equally among Act Blue, Swing Left, and The Fairness Project.

We will post receipts immediately after donating to demonstrate that every dollar has been allocated as promised.
