My dog Roxy got bit by a copperhead

My name is Jessica and I want to share with you a story about my dogs. When I was 8 my dog Lucy was diagnosed with melanoma in her eye. My Mom and Dad didn’t’ want to break my heart and put Lucy to sleep, so they had her eye removed, unfortunately the cancer had spread and she died a year later. I was the saddest little girl. I had some of Lucy’s hair in a box by my bed, and pictures of us together all over my room. My other dog Mr. Magoo was very depressed too. So, my Mom decided to adopt another dog for me to love, and she came home from the animal shelter with Roxy! I was so excited I had my new best friend!

This is where the story gets difficult. Two weeks ago, after school I found her shaking in a corner with her leg looking like some of her skin was chewed off and it was blown up like a balloon. It turns out, she was bit by one or more copperhead snakes. My Mom and I took her to the vet that night, and ever since then it’s been a nightmare. Roxy’s Veterinarian said we would have to wait and see what happens, but she said that Roxy was a tough little dog. She is on lots of medicine, and goes to get laser treatments every other day to help her leg heal.  But, the most horrible things started happening, her paw rotted and fell off and half her nails went with it. Then her top skin started coming off around her paw, shin and thigh. Through all of this Roxy is still the sweet little girl she's always been, even through she's in horrible pain. The veterinarian said after two weeks we could either try a skin graft or her leg might have to be amputated. Both options are really expensive. I feel so sad that we are going through the same problem all over again with my new best friend. If there's anyway you could help our family pay for her medical bills it would be a huge burden off of us. One day we will pay it forward.
