Love&Support for Marianne Gutierrez
Donations have been closed.
Thank you all so much for your support!
We raised $11075! Out of this, GFM takes 5%, or $553.75 - leaving Marianne with $10,521.25.
Out of this, she's going to be donating 20% ($2,104.25) to the Wounded Warrior Project in Adam's name.
The remaining $8,417 will go a long way in settling final debts and paying bills, allowing Marianne breathing room to mourn.
I will update you all - hopefully sooner than later - with further information about the roadside memorial plaque that we're still looking into having made for the vigil site.
Thank you all!
WHAT HAPPENED?
On Tuesday, May 10th, Adam Gutierrez was out walking his dog in Federal Way, WA. While many details and other factors surrounding the case are unknown, what we do know is that someone shot and killed him on the corner of 356th Street and 18th Ave SW at about 11 p.m.
If you have any information that would be helpful to police, you are urged to submit anonymous tips to the city's website here .
Luna, Adam and Marianne's beloved Shiba Inu, ran into a neighbor's yard and waited. This good Samaritan turned her in to a local SPCA where they checked her micro-chip and she was returned to the family. She's a brave little Shiba, and we're so glad she was found.
WHO WAS ADAM?
A loving son, generous brother, doting husband, and all-around amazing guy - Adam touched many lives with his gentle nature and agreeable humor.
Adam spent a decade in the Navy serving his country before enrolling at the University of Washington, studying for his electrical engineering degree.
It would have taken a lifetime to fully appreciate his impact on our lives, and having that taken from us is a tragedy in more than one way.
HOW YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL HELP
Marianne is fortunate enough to be surrounded by a loving community of family, friends, and coworkers. She has been gifted several food and household items that will keep her from having to worry about emergency trips to the store in the immediate future.
These gifts have been amazing and genuinely helpful!
What family and friends are focusing on next are the very real financial needs that can keep a person from being able to grieve and recover as long as they need to in order to heal.
The funds from this GoFundMe will help Marianne pay for just over a month's worth of bills, allowing her to have breathing room from her ASL Interpreting job. Her coworkers have been very vocal about their desire to allow her to have as much time as she wants away from work, but there's only so much time one can spend away from a paycheck.
These funds will also help cover the unexpected costs surrounding the funeral, paperwork, travel, etc., that are involved with handling a sudden loss.
We have also contacted the appropriate local government agencies about funding a memorial plaque for the corner where Adam was taken from us. This sign would be both a notice to the community that we will never forget our dear friend and brother, as well as a way of transforming that spot into one of memorial instead of fear.
THANK YOU!
Your contributions go beyond mere money, and aren't constrained by a dollar sign. Those of you who have given in other ways, we thank you for your generosity and kindness. Many hands truly do make light work.
Thank you all for your love and support!
