24hrs for mental health
24hrs for mental health
Will O’Brien is walking around Kemp Hill in Yeppoon for 24 hours to raise mental health awareness. Will has helped create this fundraiser to directly benefit Mental Health Foundation Australia.
"Hi there, my name is Will O’Brien. On the 18th of November 2023 I will be doing laps of Kemp Hill for 24 hours. I will be starting at 6am on the 18th of November and will continue to do laps of Kemp Hill until 6am on Sunday 19th of November.
Mental health is a huge issue, not just in Australia but across the world. It is really important to get out and talk when you need to, as keeping it in can cause a lot more harm than you need. Everyone has their own story, even if people seem perfectly fine and happy I can promise you that they have got their own mental battle story. The happiest people are usually the best at keeping their mental battles to themselves and not talking about it. I don’t know about you, but I have certainly had my fair share of mental battles and I am only 20. That makes me think that there is plenty of youth out there keeping their mental battle to themselves. Mental health is not talked about enough in our youth, we have young people who are too afraid to talk taking their own lives because they feel lost and empty with no one to talk too. We need to change this and if we as a community can make a small contribution this will be a great start to helping out those who need our help with mental health challenges. Check up on your mates and loved ones because you don’t know what someone else is going through and you reaching out to them may be the turning point for them.
On November the 18th, if you are around and would like to join me for a few laps, I invite anyone and everyone to come and join me. To stamp out mental health problems and get people talking, we need the whole community’s support to show the people struggling there is help there and they are not standing alone.
Please, if you are in the position to do so, make a donation to this mental health awareness challenge. Even the smallest donation will go a long way to give people the help they need. If you are not in the position to donate, all I ask is that you check up on your family and friends.
Thank you, Will"
