Hello everybody!
My name is Cindy Alvarado and I am a First-Generation Mexican-American student from the Greater Houston, TX area.
My story
Growing up, I saw that the poverty, inequality and corruption in my home country made things very challenging for my people to thrive. Thankfully, grandparents fought hard so that their family wouldn't have to follow the same generational chain and we could have a better quality of life. I dreamt of a brighter future and I promised myself that I would help contribute to this world somehow. As a teenager, I became involved in many extracurricular activities which helped me to form what would be a life-long dream of becoming a businesswoman and creating my own sustainable change!
Educational path
At the age of 18, I was lucky enough to graduate amongst the top of my class with an honorable mention for academic results. I received 4 scholarships: The Emma Harris and Joe Harris Memorial Scholarship, The Paul Daniel’s Scholarship, The Dayton Rotary Scholarship, The Young Memorial Scholarship. Thankfully, I was able leave my town to attend The University of Houston- Main Campus. Despite the difficulties I was facing, I managed to complete mostly all of my courses and even receiving another scholarship needed to continue my education (The Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship Scholarship). As if one concentration wasn't enough, I decided to pursue a major in Management Information Systems and I now I am 2 classes away from graduating from the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston with a BBA in MIS and a concentration in Entrepreneurship.
Pursuing an academic dream
Since the accident, it's been difficult having to buy a car and pay for other living expenses and pay this past due balance. I have tried applying for scholarships and other ways to get a loan to no avail. I need help. I will forever be grateful for any amount you choose to contribute. I will always remember and thank each one of you who have helped me on my journey Thank you all for reading this and thinking of me. I'm wishing you all and your loved ones the best!
Financial needs
I turn to you today because I realize this is the only way I will be able to make my academic project a reality. As much as my mother or father would love to help, it would take a toll on their personal lives to help cover the cost of my studies with their salaries alone. Fortunately, I am only two classes away from finishing up. I will use the full amount to pay for a prior balance of $4,417.20. Every dollar you donate makes an impact!
My engagement
So far I have shared my experiences with a lot of people and I am more than happy to share it with you! Please don't hesitate to contact me if:
- You struggle with university, career, choices, application procedures, internship hunting, job interview prep, etc.
Your contribution
If you share these same thoughts and feelings, please support my academic dream with a small contribution, a positive comment or suggestion. I would be extremely grateful if you shared this story among your friends too.
Let's make a change together!
Thank you & sincerely,
Cindy L. Alvarado
