Marmalade's journey
Marmalade and Elmer were adopted by Steven (me) and molly(my fiance) on Jan 3rd 2020
we believe she was used as a bait dog/fighter due to all the fear and scars she had.
she was severely malnourished and had a lung infection when she found her new home.
she was always on high alert at home.
always on guard.
she didn't trust ANYONE
but as our time grew together so did our love.
fast forward two months and she saved molly and I from someone trying to take our vehicle.
she is the BEST!
fast forward to September 4th around 10pm
molly let her outside to go to the bathroom.
marmalade decided to dig her way under her fence and get out.
molly ran out to try and get her back
but not even 90 seconds went by before a high driver that was going around 30mph over the speed limit (45mph is the max allowed)
hit her.
he pulled over and his friend admitted he had been smoking weed and apologized.
we didn't have time to report them for speeding and driving while under the influence
we just rushed her to the vet.
we were told she didn't have a chance.
we were told they wanted $3k to help her.
we started calling EVERYONE! to try and send money to help her.
we got the $3k loaned to us and she started being treated
around 1am we were told there was nothing they could do.
and that we had to take her to NC state
so we got the address and left
we arrive and they gave us THE WRONG ADDRESS!
we call nc state and got the right address!
it took us 15 extra minutes to get to nc states facility to help her.
She was drowning in her own blood at this point.
they take her in and they wanted $6k down payment to help.
I begged and pleaded until they agreed to take the $2,400 we had.
we were told the chances were slim to non that she would live.
she had a punctured lung, fluid around her heart, a broken leg, ribs broken, her spine is broken in two places, all the open wounds would be infected, she didn't have a chance.
but she FOUGHT! marmalade stood her ground and she fought for life!
after blood transfusions and breathing tubes
she made it thru the night.
day 2
I was given a call at 6am with a update.
things were very bleak.
they said she wouldn't make it.
that she would die without a breathing tube.
her lungs were to far gone.
that her heart would fail.
"Mr marsh you won't be a bad person for any decision you make now. it may be time to consider putting her down"
NO! she fights for me I fight for her!
day 3
the next morning I get a call telling me her heart is good!
but she needs her leg amputated and her lungs are still failing
they still don't think she will make it.
18 hours later her lungs took a complete 180 and started healing!
day 4
I'm called and told they want to try to save her leg.
but the surgery cost around $4k they need $2300 as a down payment.
I agree and worked non stop
we got the money
7pm I get a call that they saved her leg.
day 5
they are hopeful
she is still on oxygen and ivs be she is doing much better.
however there is no chance to save her spine.
she will never be able to use her back legs again.
but she is stable.
she should be home in two weeks.
day 6
her leg is doing so much better and she has stopped throwing up (she has been regurgitating everything)
day 7
she is completely stable.
she is off oxygen
she is about to get her full boby cast/splint
and she should be home in 4-5 days
we still own the vet $8 but our baby girl is alive and thriving
