Duchess's Story:
Duchess was a stray who was brought into the vet clinic where I work after being hit by a car, which broke her jaw, and banged her up pretty bad- most places would've just euthanized her, but by some miracle Duchess got lucky and the staff at Adobe Animal Hospital took a chance and worked to repair her jaw. She was in recovery for roughly a month;she was on a feeding tube and lots of medicine. Her chances of survival were slim, but she was a fighter and pulled through.
I met her the day I arrived at the clinic for my first day and ended up bringing her home with me less than a week later.
The day I first met Duchess her mouth was just beginning to heal and the feeding tube had just been removed, and she was very thin...the lowest meow caught my attention; her eyes showed so much sadness but her purrs showed so much love and hope. Everyday I would spend time with her, petting her, talking to her and when the doctors asked me if I could give her a home a few weeks later I knew immediately we were meant to be in each other lives. It was a transition for us both, I had never cared for a special needs kitty and she had never experienced life as a special needs kitty but we learned together.
Her jaw is still crooked and it will be for the rest of her life, but it hasn't crushed her spirit. (We do have the option of going back in a year or two to attempt reconstructive surgery).
She has been a part of our family since November and she walks around like she's owns the house, sitting where she pleases and warming hearts wherever she goes. She loves cuddling and playing with her toys.
We are still learning her quirks and helping her live her new life but we wouldn't have it any other way, she has had a few more procedures since coming home with me but she is getting stronger everyday and we couldn't be more proud.
We are still unsure if there will be a reconstructive surgery in the future or not but we are continuing to save money in case, having a special needs kitty is not a cheap task-she has meds and requires special foods. We created this gofund me in hopes of raising more money for her lifelong care. If you cannot donate we ask for your prayers and continued love.
Much love,
Duchess & Momma
