I'M MOVING TO ETHIOPIA TO VOLUNTEER!!!
I'll be moving to Assosa, Ethiopia for a year to volunteer as a nurse alongside the local health professionals to help improve access to healthcare in the region. My specialty lies in women's and children's health care, an area in which such small changes can have huge impacts. In 2014 only 16% of births in Ethiopia were attended by a skilled health care worker and only 41% of women receive any prenatal care at all. Through training and education I will be able to leave a lasting impact on this community and it's people and I fully expect to learn just as much from them in the process.
And now some info on the amazing organization who will be sending me and who will be my backup while I'm overseas: "Cuso International sends people rather than money. Our volunteers work on long-term, sustainable solutions, and live at the heart of the community they serve, on a similar allowance and in comparable accommodation to their local co-workers. Lasting change requires not just a financial investment, but also a human investment. That’s why Cuso International shares skills, and improves lives."
Any help you can give is very appreciated. Hugs, words of encouragement, tips on living in remote areas, Amheric language lessons, all is appreciated but most importantly right now any financial support you may be able to help with; everything counts.
All of this work I'll be doing is unpaid, I receive a place to stay and a stipend to buy food and essentials and that is all funded by donations. The money I raise here will be for an emergency fund for myself and then at the end of the year if left unused will go to the hospital where I am volunteering. If you would like to donate to Cuso International directly please visit: https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/FundraisingPage.aspx?registrationID=3422201&langPref=en-CA
Thank you everyone, I could not embark on this life changing journey without you all!
