My name is Pamela Hetherington. I am a Philadelphia native and a professional dancer, choreographer, composer and leader in the field of tap dance.
Since 2015, I have owned Sound Space Performing Arts, a 4000-square foot dance space at 2511 West Girard Avenue. Sound Space is dedicated specifically to the preservation and advancement of percussive dance in American culture, and more broadly, we aim to offer programming that reflects our shared American history and our collective, visionary future. I personally work hard to cultivate an educational and artistic environment which is forward-facing, relevant, accessible, and transformative for our North Philadelphia community and the city at large.
A large part of what I do is informed by this need I have: to give back to the city that has given me so much.
As I continue to grow roots in Brewerytown and expand my projects into the community, I wanted to find a way to transmit the vibrancy, excitement, hard work, love and energy that comes through our doors on a daily basis. I see a mural as a visual representation of the love that we have for our work at Sound Space. The love, work, and passion will spill literally out of the walls, windows and doorways into neighborhood, for all to see and enjoy.
We are ready to start the mural in Spring of 2020. We have commissioned a mural artist (Kaitlin Chow ), and we have a timeline. We plan to finish the mural by May 25, 2020.
Now, we just need to call upon YOU to help us fundraise $10,000. If we raise this amount, the City of Philadelphia will match it with a storefront improvement grant. We can do it with your help!
