Jared's Berning Down the Convention
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Jared Hicks and I was recently elected to be a pledged delegate for Bernie Sanders to the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia from July 25-28.
The MA Democratic Party estimates that the cost of attending the convention is approximately $3000 (no small sum), which includes transportation, lodging, food, and incidentals (ex. cab fare). Since I'm splitting it with other attendees, I'm aiming for $1500.
The lion's share of our expenses encompasses the hotel our state delegates and Washington State comrades will be staying in for five days. Since we are expected to pay for our reservation in advance, this amount is the most urgent goal to reach.
My volunteer team and I have knocked on doors in seven states (MA, NH, ME, RI, CT, NY, NJ), made calls across the country, posted signs around countless neighborhoods, marched in solidarity with fellow Americans, and attended Bernie's famous rallies at the Boston Convention Center last October and Milton High School before the Massachusetts primary.
Although I encounter unfortunate cynicism and apathy from people young and old who are fed up with a corrupt system, I find much more hopefulness and a hunger for equality, for justice, for peace.
I cannot help but feel I am in the right place at the right time in history where I can support someone who represents the values of most Americans and fights for everything I believe in. I am honored to be a part of this moment. Let us be the change we want to see.
Help me get to Philly to finish this "Bernie Journey" and take this political revolution––this beautiful movement of, by, and for the people––to the White House!
